Our Story
Based out of Calgary, Alberta, Betty Galore (aka Karin Chant) began designing and creating costumes and corsets in 2004 after graduating from the Alberta College of Art and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2010, she established Betty Galore Corsetry in order to share her talents with the community. With extensive practical knowledge and experience with sub cultural style (most pointedly as a veteran burlesque performer and producer), Betty brings both barrels of her creativity and a lifetime of sewing skills (having been raised by a consummate seamstress) to the construction of her wearable art.
Her mission is to provide clients with beautiful, unique corsets made according to the highest of standards. Her corsets are constructed of high grade corseting material built to withstand the strain and pressures of tight lacing. By offering every possible method of customization available, the corsets constructed at BGC fit each client according their specific body type, aesthetic individuality, and style needs. We want each client to have a way to express on the outside how beautiful and fearless they are on the inside, to own garments which not only reflect the unique beauty of authentic corsetry, but to also have the knowledge of how to wear them safely and to care for them in a way that will make these garments last a lifetime. We believe that corsetry is an art form and deserves the respect and reverence of any other classic medium.
Each corset style is based on practical models developed by Betty. Constructed in a three layer design with a durable cotton middle lining, a satin inner lining, a virtually unlimited choice of outer fabric, a combination of flat and spiral steel bones encased in cotton channels, reinforced waist lines, hand set grommets no more than an inch apart in the back, inverted bunny-ear back lacing, and both a front and back modesty panel, Betty’s corsets are designed with the highest standards. Clients can enjoy a choice of one of our in house designs, or you can completely build your corset from the ground up!
