Choosing Fabrics

I would point out the importance of choosing the right fabric for your corset but that would not only be redundant, and it misses the point; IT’S FUN! Determine the reason you’re buying the corset to determine what kind of fabric you’d like. If you’re buying for the purpose of waist training you’ll want a fabric that is as durable as possible but that also offers flexibility and breathability. In that case, cotton coutil is the way to go.

Cotton coutil is a herringbone weaved fabric that is absolutely ideal for corsets because its structure and fibre content is not only stretch resistant, but also extremely durable. Natural coutil also takes dye exceedingly well so it can be any colour you wish!

Another excellent choice for its durability is cotton twill. Twill is used as a stabilizing layer in every Betty Galore corset but can also be used as an outer layer for a more structured corset.

Pretty much any fabric can be used as an outer layer of a corset when backed with twill so don’t feel limited.

If you don’t see something you like here or if you have your heart set on something we don’t currently carry, let us know. We can more than likely get our hands on it for you. When ordering, make sure you specify which fabric you would like on your order form.

Fabrics

* The fabric section is still in development. Stay tuned for more options!

Satin

Satin is used as both the lining and outer fabric of the basic corsets (the outer layer is fused to cotton twill). If you would like a specific colour that you don't see here, just let us know and we will order it.

Cotton Coutil

+$40 CAD

Cotton Coutil is a herringbone weave fabric which is ideal for corsets due to its durability and lack of stretch (perfect for waist training).

Leather

+$200 CAD

Yup! Corsets can be made out of leather! Custom dyed leather can make for a beautiful statement piece. Also available: dyed pigskin and lambskin.

Lace Overlay

$80 CAD

This option consists of lace overlaid the satin outer layer. If you would like a colour that is not listed here, please let us know.

Chinese Brocade

$60 CAD

This a super pretty way to spice up your corset. This replaces the satin and is fused to a cotton twill base for strength.
